Kowality since 1920
A family business that brought the flavors of Poland to Detroit, and still smokes them the same way four generations later.
Where it began
Emigrating from Poland to America was the way to a dream life. Agnes and Zygmund Kowalski believed this and began as owners of a small grocery store on Chene Street in Detroit, Michigan.
Wanting to bring their favorite foods from the old country, they added a smokehouse to the store and began making Polish kielbasa and other sausages. Demand grew, and in 1920 they built a factory on Holbrook Avenue in Hamtramck.
